ABORTION IN GERMANY
Do you live in Germany and need an abortion? Ciocia Basia will help you arrange an abortion efficiently and safely.
In Germany, abortion on demand (i.e., without giving a reason for terminating the pregnancy) is permitted until the end of the 14th week of pregnancy, counting from the first day of the last menstrual period.
The methods of abortion available in Germany are: prmacological abortion (pills), performed up to the end of the 9th week of pregnancy, and surgical abortion, i.e. vacuum aspiration, up to the end of the 14th week.
In all cases, regardless of the method chosen, you must have a consult with a social worker at least 3 days before the procedure – this is a legal requirement, without which you will not have access to abortion in Germany. The consult is, of course, confidential and is intended to ensure that you are making the decision yourself and that you are not being pressured (which, unfortunately, sometimes happens...). . You can then ask any questions you may have about the procedure.
You do not need to have health insurance in Germany to have access to abortion on demand here.

Abortion consult
The first step is to make an appointment with a social worker. This mandatory consult is free of charge for anyone planning an abortion.
Contact your local ProFamilia office and ask for Schwangerschaftskonfliktberatung. Many centers offer consultations not only in German, but also in other languages, such as English, Spanish, and Russian.
If you are unable to make an appointment yourself due to a language barrier, please contact us. We will provide you with the email address of a staff member who will conduct a telephone consultation with you in Polish.

Choosing a clinic
Depending on where you live in Germany, it may be easier or more difficult for you to find a gynecological clinic that performs abortions. In some cases, you may have to travel several dozen kilometers to reach a clinic.
You can ask your primary care physician or contact your nearest ProFamilia branch for help in finding a doctor in your area.
When choosing a clinic, make sure you know what the rules are in that particular place: up to which week of pregnancy they perform abortions and what methods are available.

Reimbursement
You can apply for reimbursement of abortion costs. Pharmacological abortion costs between €300 and €500, and surgical abortion between €450 and €800. Contact any health insurance company and apply for reimbursement of the costs of the procedure. Remember to do this before the procedure. In the case of abortion, the health insurance fund requires residence registration, but not insurance. Other requirements must also be met. It is best to contact the health insurance company directly to obtain all the information and an explanation of the entire procedure. You can also ask the social worker for help during the consult. If you have any additional questions or difficulties, please contact us. We will provide advice and assistance to the best of our ability.
